Taxonomic note:

Restored as a valid species by A. H. Collins (2021: 247). Had been synonymized with Noctua geryon Fabricius, 1781 and misidentified as N. geryon by a.o. W. F. Kirby 1891, G. H. Hampson 1901, 1920, K. Jordan 1913, S. G. Kiriakoff 1977, and A. Zilli & N. V. Grishin 2018.
