Australasia: Hawaii, New Zealand; Nearctic: Bermuda; Neotropical: Brazil, Central American countries, Uruguay; Oriental: Indonesia (Sumatra), Malaysia; Palaearctic: Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Israel, South Europe, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom. This species is native to South Europe and North Africa (the Mediterranean Region), and in SW Asia, but it was imported in many other countries, see e.g. Neunzig 1986: 8, Zhang 1994: 160. The records of New Guinea and Papua New Guinea seem to be unsubstantiated and need confirmation.
In the dry fruits (see D. G. Sevastopulo 1977: 47).
